Jail will release fewer inmates under new policy

Marion County officials have increased the jail's approved operating capacity by 40 inmates in an effort to reduce the number of accused people who later fail to appear in court.

The effect: Starting April 4, people who are arrested and taken to the jail will be held until they post bail, are released by a judge or until the new jail capacity is reached, said jail Cmdr. Sheila Lorance.  More...
