Six New Jersey State Prison corrections officers are indicted, suspended in alleged inmate beating

Six Department of Corrections employees, including two from Trenton and one from Ewing, have been indicted and suspended without pay in connection with the alleged beating of an inmate at New Jersey State Prison last fall.

Sgt. Kevin Newsom, 46, of Ewing; Sgt. Lorenzo Foster, 46, of Southampton, Pa.; and corrections officers Effrain Gonzalez, 29, of Trenton; Derrick Smith, 44, of Trenton; Kevin McEady, 48, of Camden; and Damian Albanese, 33, of Manahawkin have been indicted on charges of official misconduct. The charge stems from their failure to submit reports that accurately reflected the use of force on an inmate who was transported to the prison health center on Oct. 26, said Casey DeBlasio, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office.  More...
