Inmate missing from Shirley prison

A Springfield man who was missing from the minimum-security prison in Shirley yesterday is also an independent record producer who believes that life as a prison inmate is a dead end, according to his website.

Tamik Kirkland was discovered missing from the Department of Correction prison at 7:35 a.m. yesterday and had not been found as of last night.

The 24-year-old was serving up to four years in state prison after his conviction in Hampden Superior Court on weapons offenses, corrections officials said.

He arrived in the state corrections system on Nov. 19, 2009, and his first parole eligibility date was Feb. 15, 2012. He was scheduled to finish his sentence on Aug. 16, 2013, according to the corrections department, which said it will push to have Kirkland prosecuted for escape if he is captured.  More
