N.C. prison warden steps down after scathing report

RALEIGH — The warden of North Carolina's Central Prison stepped down this month following a scathing internal review of conditions for inmates with mental illness at the facility.

The Associated Press first reported Monday that a June 2011 review by the N.C. Department of Correction found that inmates with serious mental disorders were often isolated for weeks, sometimes nude, in cells puddled with human waste. Gov. Bev Perdue later called the conditions "unacceptable."  More    PrisonerPal.com   True Crime Today  Magazine Subscriptions for Prisoners since 1975
