State starts investigation of prison riot, response in Folsom

A state prison investigation is looking into the cause of Wednesday's riot at California State Prison, Sacramento.

Correctional officers used pepper spray and rubber projectiles and fired seven rifle rounds to quell the melee involving 150 maximum-security inmates about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Prison officials say two investigation teams are looking into the riot. An investigative services unit is studying the cause of the riot, and a deadly-force investigation team is looking at the use of potentially lethal rounds officers fired in an effort to halt the disturbance.  More
