Prison system seeks change in inmate records law

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota prison officials are seeking a change in state law that could eventually lead to placing information about inmates on the Internet.

The Department of Corrections has asked the Legislature to pass a bill that would allow the prison system to release photos and physical descriptions of inmates for general notification of crime victims and the public. Prison officials now can release a photo and physical description only of an inmate who has escaped.

Officials say the ability to release photos could lead to putting information about all inmates and parolees on the Internet.  More...  PrisonerPal.com
