Reform bill aims at jail overcrowding

CANTON — Driven by overcrowded prisons and a budget crunch, state lawmakers are moving forward with a plan to change when Ohio’s judges put criminals behind bars and how long they stay there.

Gov. John Kasich is backing the proposal, House Bill 86, which passed the Ohio House in May by a vote of 95-2 with support from all of Stark County’s representatives. The bill is now pending in the Ohio Senate.  More
